Waiting for rain

Mona Marshall

Waiting for rain, 2003

Screenprint

22 x 18 in

Edition of 39

Mona Marshall has been affected by many different artistic styles, such as the 13th century Christian work for its eccentric space and incredible narratives, the 15th century Dutch interiors, also for the developing space, and documentary photography of the 1930s. She views art as primarily experiential, a form of cultural dialogue. Waiting for Rain is about dryness, the absence of water. The first layer is text from a Texas newspaper during the drought of the 1950s. Ms. Marshall received her BFA from the University of Michigan, and her MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute. She also studied in Rome through the Tyler School of Art of Temple University. She works primarily with encaustic, and mixed media on paper.
