Emmanuel C. Montoya was born in Corpus Christi, TX, and has spent the last 44 years of his life in San Francisco, California. He has a BA and MFA in printmaking from San Francisco State University. He has taught printmaking, mural painting, and drawing for a variety of organizations. He currently teaches printmaking and drawing to artists with disabilities at Creative Growth Art Center in Oakland, California. His style is a collage of many influences ranging from the Chicano movement of the late 1960s and 70s to the master printmakers and muralists of contemporary Mexico and Latin America and the contemporary art movement in North America during the 1930s and 40s. His passion as an artist is his love for printmaking, which has a rich history and artistic tradition and is not just one impression but many impressions allowing a multitude of participants to engage in a cultural tradition.
