When asked about influences as a reference point for creating, artist DeAnn Acton offered, "I was born with a white father and a Mexican mother. This was something I never really thought about until after I graduated from the University of Texas and realized I had spent my life living "white." This brought out confusion, but at the same time creative problem solving in my work. In many ways I feel a certain rebirth through rediscovering my Mexican heritage. It's become the main focus of my work."
