Julio Eloy Mesa

No PasarĂ¡n!, 1996

Screenprint

22 x 16 in

Edition of 34

Cuban born artist Julio Eloy Mesa began his career at the Cuban Institute of the Arts and Cinematography. During the 1970s, while the Cuban Revolution was at its peak, a new type of communicator known as the graphic artist emerged. "Poster Art", with its use of color, collages, photographs of high contrast, text, phrases, and urgent slogans, quickly make it an indispensable medium. Mesa helped make the "film poster" a method for communication, an innovation and far from the established publicity styles. This Austin artist’s work has been exhibited internationally, and his posters are used as examples for art students in various universities throughout Latin America.
