This print is allegorical to the Taino Indian woman. Yuisa was a cacique or tribal leader in the island of Puerto Rico before the Spanish conquest. He uses a Cubanistic-surreal style distorting the image in sections and shapes that resemble feathers, flowers, leather strings or mechanical forms. Many of the shapes and forms are allusive of the patterns and symbols used by Taino Indians. Miranda was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, where he received his B.A. from the University of Puerto Rico. He earned his M.F.A. from Florida State University before relocating to his current residence in Grapevine, Texas.
