A professor of art at the University of Texas at Arlington, Corpus Christi native Benito Huerta earned his B.F.A. at the University of Houston and his M.A. at New Mexico State University at Las Cruces. Huerta's work spans painting, printmaking and ceramics and addresses a wide range of themes, including sex, death, social and cultural issues, and the relation of the individual to the community. Huerta is well known for his schematic paintings with single recognizable images. For Huerta, these images are present-day icons that communicate across cultural boundaries.
