Originally from Mexico City and now living in Austin, Texas, artist Patricia Greene says her print Voices of Time is about the voices she hears in the world; the hands represent those voices. Each hand has a different voice. The city in profile, Mexico City, represents three periods of its history: pre-Hispanic, colonial, and modern. The city stands in the shadow of two volcanoes, the Popocatepetl and the Iztlaxihuatl. Now the Popocatepetl (The Smoking Mountain) is awakening after a long sleep. Today, as before, the Mexicans see this as a sign, an old oracle coming to life with the indigenous social movement.
