Austin artist Anna Marie Pavlik's work is often involved with stories. In this print, Earthly Embrace, she used cartography references to introduce a biographical setting. The image concerns her recent exploration of Hawaii. Pavlik says the goal was to create a piece which would be acknowledged on several levels, most importantly to show the interaction of the ocean and the land, and this mirrored with the subtle heads of a woman and a man. She embellished the landscape with exotic and sometimes humorous details, attempting to transmit the continuous appearance of curious events.
