Born in Kingsville, Texas and now living in Austin, artist Mauro H. Garza earned his B.S. in education and his M.S. in education at Texas A & I University. For this print he recalls that, when he was growing up, his family always had either Aztec calendars or religious calendars in their home in South Texas. In this image, he has combined the influence of both of those types of imagery. Garza states, "We must not forget or forego our cultural past. We must embrace it through our stories and art. This way we can tell and retell the story of our people."
