Artist Floyd Newsum was born in Memphis, Tennessee and now resides in Houston, Texas. Newsum earned his M.F.A. at the Tyler School of Art at Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Of his work Newsum observes that he is dealing with his concept of the fractured landscape and relationship, especially that between a man and a woman. In African myth, the dog is the protector of the woman and the house is a symbol of family. Newsum seeks to convey positive images in the relationship between the male and female.
