Blas Lopez received his formal art education from Del Mar College and Texas A & I, both in Corpus Christi. A full-time professional artist, he is based in San Antonio. His focus is on el Gallo, the rooster, an allegory for the Chicano people. The rooster is "resilient, resourceful, proud, beautiful, and perseveres through difficult, as well as good, times, very much como la raza". Bendito depicts El Gallo and the partial image of a woman, cloaked to emphasize an element of mystery inherent to women.
