Michael Earney, a native of London, England, works primarily in acrylic paints. He has also been an illustrator for text publications, a ceramics teacher, and a documentary filmmaker. Journey to Mictlan uses a papel picado (paper cutout) from Dia de los muertos with a funerary mask from Teotihuacan. The print deals with past and present expressions of the enduring fascination with death and thereafter. The Aztec underworld was called Mictlan.
